Cell phone service is generally available on board a cruise ship. Of course, your cell phone is also available when you are in the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. You will NOT be able to use your ordinary cell phone more than 3 miles or so outside of US limits. However, there are cell phones with world wide capabilities and you might want to rent one.
If you are on a land tour (such as Hawaii or a cruisetour in Alaska, you will be given the hotel names and their phone numbers in advance. You should leave a copy of your itinerary with your family or friends before your departure. Some hotels will have free internet service, and some hotels will charge for their use. You can bring a laptop, or you may have access to an Internet cafe in some cities on the tour.
While on a cruise, the ship's Internet Cafe offers computers for rent and you are charged by the minute. Guests are provided with a personal email address. This is an excellent if somewhat expensive method of keeping in touch. Telephone and fax service is available at ship-to-shore rates. If someone needs to contact you by phone aboard the ship, they should call the High Seas Operator at 1-800-SEA.CALL.
If you are on a cruise, further information will be given to you specific to your cruise line. However, if you have a problem or question about staying in touch, please call me first at 951-929-4178 or send an email to "mailto:lorraine@angelfishcruises.com">lorraine@angelfishcruises.com.
